TV serial 'Gora' to be telecast on Doordarshan from Oct 29

Eminent author and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's second novel 'Gora' has been transformed into a 26-episode Hindi serial to be aired on the National channel of Doordarshan every Monday and Tuesday at 2130 hrs from October 29.
Commissioned by Doordarshan, the TV show was an attempt to aware today's generation of Tagore's work, which examines the contemporanceous disconnect between the urban educated and the rural generation, Doordarshan's Director General Tripurari Sharan told reporters here last night, He said 'Gora' is an epic of India in transition at a crucial period of modern history, when the social conscience and intellectual awareness of the new intelligentsia were on the throes of a great churning. 'In the true tradition of a classic, this work of Tagore foregrounded several strands of the debate between tradition and modernity in ways that enables this debate to be as relevant and important today as it was in those heady years of Indian nationalism".
Mr Sharan said by bringing this serial on its prime time telecast, Doordarshan was endeavouring to build on its efforts to accord primacy to socially relevant and meaningful content which informs and educate while attempting to entertain its audiences, Through 'Gora', as with several of its programmes, DD seeks to underline how it is putting out content with a difference, he said.

Big hoardings of the serial have come up in the city, the signs of changing times, and many more programmes were on the anvil, including assigning famous producer Ekta Kapoor some of its programmes, Mr Sharan added. | 27 Oct 2012
